Verbena High School's Math-A-Thon was launched on January 31 to raise vital funds for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, one of the world's premier centers for research and treatment of pediatric cancer and other catastrophic childhood diseases. St. Jude is the top children's cancer hospital in the nation, according to U.S. News & World Report.
Verbena and other Chilton County communities can support Verbena students in grades 2-6 by making donations to St. Jude in honor of students' participation in the national math fundraising program. Since its inception more than 30 yeas ago, Math-A-Thon has become one of America's largest education-based fundraisers. More than 10,000 schools across the country participate in the program every year.
In order for a student to participate in the Math-A-Thon, the parent or guardian must sign a permission slip. Permission slips must be turned in by Friday, February 4. Mrs. Champion will then order the Math-A-Thon funbooks which have math problems for the students to do. The permission slip is attached to a envelope and form for recording sponsors' names and the amount of their donations. We hope that as many students as possible will participate. Our goal is to raise $1000 for this very worthy cause.
